### La /v/: la /f/ con voz — y no es una /b/

La /v/ se produce exactamente como la /f/, con el labio inferior en los dientes superiores, pero **haciendo vibrar la voz**. En español la _v_ escrita se pronuncia igual que la _b_, así que este sonido es nuevo de verdad — y sin él, palabras como _very_, _voice_ y _love_ se confunden con otras.

**Cómo se produce**

- 👄 **Boca:** labio inferior tocando los dientes de arriba; los labios **no** se cierran entre sí.
- 👅 **Lengua:** libre, no interviene.

### The /v/: the /f/ with voice — and it isn't a /b/

The /v/ is made exactly like /f/, bottom lip on top teeth, but **with the voice vibrating**. In Spanish the written _v_ is pronounced just like a _b_, so this sound is genuinely new — and without it, words like _very_, _voice_ and _love_ get confused with other words.

**How it's made**

- 👄 **Mouth:** bottom lip touching the top teeth; the lips do **not** close against each other.
- 👅 **Tongue:** free — it plays no part.
- 🔊 **Voice:** **voiced** — the lip should vibrate against the teeth.

**You hear it in:** _very_ · _voice_ · _love_ · _have_ · _river_

> ⚠️ **The typical Spanish-speaker mistake:** pronouncing it as a /b/ by closing both lips. _Very_ said as _beri_ is probably the most recognizable consonant error a Spanish speaker makes.
