Second ear-training exercise: sounds that resemble each other

In the first exercise you worked on isolated sounds. Here we go up a level: you'll compare sounds that a Spanish ear hears as the same one. Telling minimal pairs apart is what really trains your listening, because it forces you to focus on the difference rather than the whole word.

What you'll practice

• 🔀 Compare in pairs: hear two words in a row and decide which is which.
• 🎯 Isolate the difference: everything matches except one sound — that's the exercise.
• 🔁 Alternate: say both words back to back until they sound different.

Practice with: sit / seat · ship / sheep · full / fool · bad / bed

⚠️ The typical Spanish-speaker mistake: relying on context to guess the word. There is no context in the exercise: either you hear the sound or you don't.

By the end you'll be able to: hear the difference between word pairs that differ in one vowel only.
